What's my story?
FORMAL CV
Jakub – Remote Sensing data analyst. I hold a master's degree in geoinformatics and remote sensing with a background in cartography and physical geography.
I'm always curious about remote sensing problems, especially interested in SAR, Time Series and Deep Learning. During my
studies at Charles University, I worked on several research projects, especially in Krkonose National Park, Czechia, where
I honed my skills in Deep Learning, Synthetic Aperture Radar and time series analysis. I am a firm believer in the value of
temporal remote sensing data, as I explored the value they bring during my Erasmus+ stay at HU Berlin and during my work on
E-TRAINEE.
Being a physical geographer, it should come as no surprise that I love the outdoors. Ever since I was a kid, we spent
our vacations on summer camps (where I still go as an instructor), cottages, hiking, canoeing... Even though I love nature,
there is also something that deeply fascinates me about cities. Regardless of if I'm there for a year or a few days, you
can find me wandering around random neighbourhoods or taking in the urban fabric from the vantage point of public transport
(I grew up in Prague with its ~35 tram lines). After a long day, I enjoy reading (HP/discworld), playing video games
(Civilization comes to mind) or watch something with a British dry sense of humor (Yes, Minister). However, nothing compares
to the joy of having inspiring conversations, be they with mentors, fellow students, or someone else I've met through
groups like Youth for Understanding or EGEA.
Notable conferences/trainings
ISPRS Congress 2022 (Nice, France)
Received 3rd place in CATCON (Computer-assisted teaching contest) for
CNN Compare and presented a
paper on Weakly supervised learing
for treeline ecotone classification.
Co-authors: Markéta Potůčková, Václav Treml (Charles University)
Trans–Atlantic Training 2022 (Prague, Czechia)
This training was incredibly incredbly valuable, particularily for networking and as a way to understand differences between European and North American approaches to EO.
Tutors: Volker Radeloff (University Wisconsin–Madison), Jessica McCarty (Miami University), Sergii Skakun (University of Maryland), He Yin (Kent State University), Petya Campbell (NASA), Francesco Sarti (ESA), Přemysl Štych (Charles University), Pierre Louis Frisson (Université Paris-Est), Krištof Oštir (University of Ljubljana)
GISáček 2021 (Remote / Ostrava, Czechia)

EuroSDR EduServ 2020 (Paris, France)
EduServ gave me solid foundations in Deep Learning for RS and Point cloud analysis from leading researchers in the respective fields.
Tutors: Loic Landrieu (IGN France), Sébastien Lefèvre (Université Bretagne Sud), Bertrand Le Saux (ONERA), Martin Weinmann, Boris Jutzi (Karlsruhe Institute of Technology), Michael Weinmann (University of Bonn), Franz Rottensteiner (Leibniz Universität Hannover)
Volunteering, unrelated jobs, extracurriculars
Summer camp instructor, 2012- (Orlické hory, Czechia)
Every year I love to go to Orlické hory for two week and work with kids (6-15 years).
It always fills me with energy, despite being pretty intensive work. Probably because
it's a very different kind of work to what I do for the rest of the year.
Election worker / presiding officer, 2017-2023 (Dobřichovice, Czechia)
I have been an election worker / presiding officer during all elections held in this time period.
YFU CZ intern and volunteer, 2016-2020 (Prague, Czechia)
After coming back from my exchange year in Denmark, I started volunteering for the
organization I went there with - Youth for Understanding (YFU). My responsibilities
included preparing seminars, day-to-day office duties, interviewing potential candidates
and supporting groups of exchange students during their visits to Prague. I have also
supported returning exchange students during YES seminar 2018 in Germany.
EGEA Entity member / PR & media coordinator, 2017-2023 (Prague, Czechia)
I have helped organise and attended many events organised by our local entity of EGEA
(European association of geography students and young geographers). The events included
short exchanges with students throughout Europe, discussions with professors, etc...
